At ABC Rolleston we are very lucky as we are a purpose built centre and have wonderful established gardens and trees. Our Nursery caters for children aged 6 weeks to 2 years and our Preschool 2-5 years.
Both our Preschool and Nursery encourage children to take part in their own learning opportunities. We have many learning opportunities on offer and a range of resources for the children to choose from themselves. The experiences on offer are based on the children’s current interests.
In our Preschool we have a literacy corner which the children love to explore. They can get involved with activities around writing, puzzles, numeracy and reading. The children like to practice being at school or in the office in this area and they love the bright colourful displays. Our home corner includes dress-ups, dolls, prams, beds, play food, a table and chairs for ‘eating’ at, and a kitchen set up. This is a very well-used and loved area of play.
Outside is exciting with a large sandpit, fort and play areas which are set up differently each day. Swings, obstacle courses, balance beams, climbing boxes and slides are just a few examples of our outdoor exploration opportunities.
Art, puzzles, games, blocks…the list goes on! All of these are fun activities to share with friends in the outdoors. Our Nursery has a big open space which allows room to explore and develop relationships with the other children and teachers. They have their own outdoor playground which is very colourful, safe, and full of opportunities to develop their motor development. All experiences are based on the children’s interests and current skills.
